Often described as one of the more adventurous models to be initially re-introduced as part of the CPCP range, the Asymétrique is a classic Cartier design, which has captured the imagination of collectors for years. Initially known as the Tank Oblique, it was envisioned for drivers in 1936. The parallelogram shaped case features a dial that is slanted diagonally, such that when their hands were up on a steering wheel, the dial was oriented upright. It was later renamed the Tank Asymétrique, taking several different shapes over its lifetime.

This Cartier Asymétrique was released in 2020 and is clearly grounded in the aesthetics of the 1996 Collection Privée, in addition to the later 2006 version. The watch bears several striking similarities to its predecessors, such as through the use of Arabic numerals and the third lug at either end, which is centred with the case. In keeping with modern tastes, the proportions have been updated, with the case measuring at 47x26mm.

Limited to 100 pieces in platinum, pink gold, and yellow gold, the whimsical design translates exceptionally well in a modern context, with its geometrical lines and angles. This platinum example is further distinguished thanks to the ruby, rather than traditional sapphire cabochon crown. This example bears a case number below 10, a highly coveted feature for collectors.
